How to scan photos to PDF on phone or desktop

A photo of a receipt or form is easy to take, but a scan needs readable text, straight edges and the right page order. The Document Scanner turns those photos into JPG scans or a single PDF, using your browser to process the files.

1. Take a clear photo of each page

Place the document on a flat surface in even light. Hold the camera parallel to it and keep all four corners in the picture. Move away from direct light if glossy paper reflects it. Retake a blurred image before editing: increasing contrast cannot recover missing detail.

2. Choose your photos

Open Document Scanner and tap Choose images. On iPhone, use the choices offered by the native picker. On Android, choose Take photo for the live camera preview or Choose from gallery for an existing image. If the browser cannot start a live camera, use the device-camera fallback. On a desktop, use the same button or drag photos into the drop area. You can work with up to 20 pages at a time.

3. Crop and straighten each page

Open Crop and move each circular magnifier until the crosshair marks a document corner. This corrects perspective when the page was photographed at an angle. Use Rotate 90° for a sideways photo and Straighten for small rotation adjustments.

4. Make the text readable

Start with Auto enhancement. Use Color for documents with colored stamps or charts, Grayscale to remove color, or B&W for high-contrast text. Check signatures and faint pencil marks before using B&W, since thresholding can remove lighter details. Brightness and contrast apply to the selected page.

5. Put the pages in order and export

Open Pages and drag the grips into reading order. In Export, enter a document name and choose Export PDF to include every page. Choose Download JPG when you need only the selected page as an image. Open the downloaded file and check each page before sending it.

JPG or PDF?

PDF keeps several pages together in a fixed order. JPG is useful when an upload form accepts only an image. If the JPG exceeds a file-size limit, use Compress Image and check that small text remains legible. The image compressor does not compress PDF documents.

What this scanner does not do

The PDF contains scanned page images; it does not perform OCR or turn text into searchable, editable words. It also does not store unfinished scans between visits. Download your completed output before closing the page. Processing happens locally without sending your documents to ImageGarage.

If the download is hard to find on mobile

The available save choices depend on your browser and device. Check the browser's downloads list or the location you chose in its save or share screen. Keep the original photos until you have opened and checked the exported file.
