How to Add Text to a Photo

Text on an image can label a product, explain a screenshot or create a social graphic. Good results depend less on decorative fonts than on clear contrast, spacing and placement.

Prepare the composition

Crop or resize the image before placing text. Look for an area with relatively even color and enough empty space. Avoid covering faces, important objects or information that the viewer needs.

Add and format the text

Open Text & Logo in Photo Editor and choose Text. The cursor is ready for typing; if you switch tools without entering anything, the empty item is cancelled automatically. Choose a font, size and colour that remain readable at the final display size.

Create reliable contrast

Use a light color on a dark area or a dark color on a light area. When the background is busy, add a highlight or move the text to a calmer region. Check readability without zooming in.

Position and arrange

Drag the text into place and use layer controls when it overlaps other annotations or shapes. To remove it from any tool, select the text and use the on-canvas × control or Delete action. Keep a consistent margin from the image edge so social platforms and thumbnails are less likely to crowd it.

Export at the intended size

Preview the result at approximately the size where it will be used. Choose PNG for very sharp graphic text, or JPG/WebP for photographic content where a smaller file is useful, then select Save to download the edited copy.

Use the tool

Ready to try it? Open Photo Editor. Your image is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to ImageGarage.
