A circular crop is useful for avatars, profile pictures and simple design elements. Because image files are rectangular, the area outside the circle needs transparency rather than a permanently colored corner.
Choose a suitable photo
Start with a photo that has room around the subject. A tightly framed face leaves little space to adjust the circle. Higher-resolution originals also produce cleaner edges when the result is displayed at larger sizes.
Select a square crop first
Open Crop Image and select a 1:1 ratio. Position the square so the subject is centered with comfortable space above and beside it. Use the composition grid to keep eyes or the main subject balanced.
Apply the circle shape
Choose Circle from Shape in the Crop panel. Rotate and Straighten remain available directly above Shape if the source needs alignment first. The preview shows which parts will remain visible; reposition or resize the crop before exporting.
Export as PNG
Use PNG so the corners outside the circle remain transparent. JPG does not support transparency and would fill those corners with a solid color.
Test it on the destination
Place the exported PNG on both light and dark backgrounds. Check that hair, logos and thin edges look clean and that the subject still reads clearly at the small size used by profile interfaces.
