How to Rotate a Photo 90 Degrees

A photo can appear sideways when camera-orientation information is missing or handled differently by another app. Rotating the pixels and exporting a new copy makes the intended orientation explicit.

Add the sideways photo

Open Rotate Image and choose a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC image. You can add multiple files when a group from the same camera or scan session needs the same correction.

Rotate left or right

Choose a 90-degree left or right rotation until the preview is upright. Two 90-degree turns produce a 180-degree rotation. Use the preview rather than relying on the filename or thumbnail orientation.

Distinguish rotation from straightening

A 90-degree rotation fixes portrait-versus-landscape orientation. If the horizon is only slightly tilted, use Crop Image or Photo Editor for free-angle straightening instead.

Download one or a batch

Download an individual corrected image, or use the ZIP option when processing several files. Extract the archive and review a few results before deleting or moving the originals.

Keep the original

Save the rotated result as a new copy. This protects the source if you later need its full quality, metadata or original camera orientation.

Use the tool

Ready to try it? Open Rotate Image. Your image is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to ImageGarage.
